Christmas Day, 2000 Partial Solar Eclipse

From Camino Cielo West road above Santa Barbara, California. High clouds early in the morning looked like they would obscure the view, but it turns out they helped by diffusing the light. Sunspot activity was high this morning as well.

The Christmas morning crowd, from left to right:

Paul Cassidy, Chuck McPartlin, Pat McPartlin, Tony Galván, and Joan Galván.

Veteran solar chaser Joan Galván give Chuck and Pat some tips on the use of the infamous short-tube refractor!

At Santa Barbara's latitude we were offered about 15% of coverage of the sun. Nonetheless, the view from Camino Cielo is breathtaking, especially on Christmas morning.
