Jupiter and its Moons

Jupiter with Io, Europa, GanymeadeandCalisto
Scope/lens: C8 w/ eyepiece projection: 18mm Celestron Ortho
Mount: GM 11
Camera: Nikon Coolpix 950 Exposures: Composite: 1/60 (Jupiter); 1/4 (moons)

Location: Goleta, CA
Date: 11/18/2000

This was first light for the Coolpix. The detail this digital camera can pick up is amazing.

The camera is connected to the a standard C8 T-mount adapter with a 42mm to 28mm converter ring made by CKC Power. Despite poor seeing sufficient detail can be seen on the planet including some banding.

This image is a composite of two exposures. One exposure was for the planet and the other for the moons. The only digital manipulation made on the image was streching RGB values to improve surface detail on the planet.
